Meeting the neuro surgeon

We walked into the neurological department at Health Sciences Centre and waited. We had heard from many people back home that they knew of this doctor and had had positive experiences with him through their own medical difficulties or those of friends and family, so we were quite curious to meet him (OK, I was curious to meet him!) We were called into the office and after initial introductions he asked what had precipitated us going to see our doctor initially.

Wes explained what had happened and then he finishes it off by saying, “My wife finally gives me an opportunity to talk and I can’t say a word”

The Dr. just nodded and with a very deadpan look said “Isn’t that how it always is” So, needless to say he did not win any brownie points with me!

Men think they're so funny!...

The Dr. did not beat around the bush, but was very direct and honest. We would have a fight on our hands, but not without the medical systems help. He wanted to operate as quickly as possible to remove most of the tumour and then radiation and chemo would start fairly quickly after that. He felt that it was a middle of the road tumour (Grade 2 or 3). This was better news than we had anticipated, but they would treat it as though it was a Grade 4 tumour which is the worst. They felt it only made sense to go at it with the most fire power they had to try and destroy what was left or at least throw it into remission. He gave us hope...he offered us years of life and that was better than we had expected. The surgery date was set...September 22, 2008...here we go!

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
