Love you more than Tim's...

October 31, 2008 - Well, we made it home again. One more week of treatments under our belt and so far so good. We are almost at the halfway mark. Please continue to pray for protection for Wes' eyes, brain stem and healthy brain tissue. We are also very happy that he has had no adverse effects from the chemo so far and he has already taken 15 doses. I brought home our ten days worth of pills and this is what it looked like, along with the other meds that he is taking. Today, we will go and pick up another 10 days worth...yuck!

Let's think happy thoughts...we definitely knew it was Halloween in the Hospital with all the amazing costumes that were floating around. You can only imagine how happy I was wandering around looking at all the different beautiful costumes that were there. Nothing scary...well, there was that one witch, but trust me, there was no wart on her nose, she was so beautiful in her black costume and of course I had to stop and tell her so.

There was the Queen of hearts, the court jester, Snow White, King of Spades, King of Diamonds and oh yeah, the nurse at the front desk was in her housecoat and curlers...not quite sure if that was a costume or just a way of getting out of dressing up for work! I was so sorry that I didn't have my camera with me, they were so absolutely beautiful and having so much fun with it, I loved the atmosphere! Needless to say I did NOT stay in the waiting room, I was wandering around looking at all the wonderful characters.

You know, they may wear costumes and have taken the day today to act a little goofy, but these professionals are very caring and loving individuals. I watched as an older gentleman in a wheelchair was being fed his meds by his wife. I watched as he choked on that first pill and couldn't not seem to find the energy to swallow it. A young tech stepped out quickly from behind the curtain and without disturbing the moment between husband and wife he hovered in the background making sure that everything was under control. Only when the older gentleman nodded at his wife that the pill was down did the young man take his eyes off of him and move on to another patient. He walked over to an older woman who was there with her daughter. As he walked up to her and softly called her name the daughter stood up and said that her mother was having a lot of pain and trouble walking. Without hesitation he moved beside the older woman and gently took her arm and pulled it through his. He quietly asked her where the pain was and then as she answered he carefully escorted her into radiation as though she was royalty. The daughter sat down with a sigh, completely content that her mother was being taken care of.

The Mask - After Wes was done his radiation the techs asked Wes if he wanted to take his mask home for his kids for Halloween, he would have to be very careful with it, but they thought our boys would get a kick out of seeing dad's mask. Then they asked how old our kids were, Wes told them that they were 21 and 22. Needless to say they were a bit shocked, they thought Wes had little boys, so they decided that the boys would probably not be that excited about it. So, the mask stayed in the city.

I wish we could have stayed a bit longer in the city this evening because there was a huge coffee get together with all the other tenants in the apartment block for a Halloween party. Nic was telling me that most of the tenants get dressed up for all the little ones from the neighbourhood that come trick or treating. Everyone meets in the foyer, so that the kids aren't running around door to door and they hand out the goodies. Nic said that even the seniors in the building all get dressed up for the kids. I would have LOVED to have been a part of that, but alas, real life has to be addressed and we needed to get home to get some stuff done before Monday.

I have enjoyed meeting the people in this building they are so friendly and have made us feel welcome. Plus, there is a Tim's right across the street in the Grant Park Mall. So, guess where I walk to every morning.

It has been absolutely gorgeous weather this week, hasn't it? You can go out for a walk with a light sweater or jacket, but no parkas yet...Yippee!!

Well, it does feel good to be home, but I will miss my walk to Tim's tomorrow morning...but, I do love my family and friends more than Tim's...ummm...well, most of the time - haha - just kidding!!

Here's a picture for those of you who have been emailing how much you miss Wes' wave in the truck. We've had a few people say that seeing the truck reminds them to stop and pray for Wes and we think that is awesome!!
Thank you again to everyone for your prayers and support, we appreciate it more than words can say!!
Have a great weekend!
