What does God see?

We have a dog, his name is 'Buddy', we don't know what breed of dog he is, but he's all ours. Mark and Eva found him at the side of the highway when he was just a little puppy. We didn't want a dog, but we somehow inherited this mutt anyway. This is an older picture of him when we were still able to get him to sit still long enough to take a picture.

He's a strange dog, his tail never wagged from side to side it always went in a circle. He watches the house like a hawk, if I'm in the kitchen working he's sitting by the kitchen window looking at me, if I'm doing laundry he stands and watches what I'm doing through the garden doors. He loves all the snow in the backyard because now when he wants to watch us in the house the snow brings him up at least another four feet. I'm sure it's not so hard on his neck that way.

He's fast, so fast in fact that he has captured two jackrabbits this year already...yuck! But, even though we have grown quite attached to this strange creature he has one habit that will one day cost him his life. He chases vehicles, pretty much any vehicle that drives by. He thinks it's a game, a race and he always thinks he's going to win. Well, the day before yesterday he lost, our neighbour drove over him. Buddy lost his footing and went under the truck in two shakes. However, lucky for Buddy he survived. The truck was a 3/4 tonne which makes the truck quite high off the ground and somehow Buddy managed to simply tumble beneath the truck and not the truck's wheels.

Though for the rest of the day he was walking pretty low to the ground, every time a vehicle drove by he let us know in a huge way that this had become personal for him, he had developed a new hate for them driving by.

We were thinking, no we were hoping that he had now learned his lesson, well, that only lasted for that one day and now he's back at it. Maybe a bit more cautious, but still just as stupid.

Though I hate to admit it, I think that we are all a little bit like that.

God must watch us and shake his head like I do when I watch Buddy chasing vehicles. God knows the dangers and he's warned us, he's given us guidelines and sometimes he lets us know loud and clear that we should rethink our course of action. But, we think we can handle things on our own, chase away what we don't understand, what scares us, things we don't have control over. But, deep down we know we can't do anything without him and he's not willing to leave us to do battle on our own. He still let's us know in so many ways that he cares and that even when we feel as though we're tumbling beneath a moving vehicle, out of control, he is there right beside us.

Though I will turn my head when I see Buddy chasing another vehicle because I don't want to see the end result, God doesn't look away. He watches us constantly, we are never out of His sight. He knows the end result and I find a lot of comfort in that...

"He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber..." Psalm 121:3

Morning Mom and Dad,

We know how attached you are to Buddy and I'm glad that he's ok too.
It's been an interesting past three weeks to say the least.
Thanks for all your prayers, we feel them everyday!

Love you lots!!

Funny how God teaches us lessons through a "Not so bright pooch". Sorry about your spin Buddy but your not the first to ever get caught in the wheels of truck or bus. Like you we're so relieved when we're safe after a scare like that and we think we'll never do that again only to find ourselves running down that same road again.
