Your Prayers!
As we continue to mosey along our brain tumor journey we have often heard people remark, “All we can do is pray for you!” We’ve even had people excuse their prayers because they feel they aren’t as eloquent in their prayers as some might be.
First of all let me say “Thank you! For ALL your prayers”
Listen, we know our grandchildren aren’t eloquent in speech
yet, but, we know their little prayers for Papa matter. We understand that many people are at a loss
for words, but, their prayers matter. We’ve
had various people praying with us, for us and over us and each prayer has been
hugely important. Whether someone has
words and scripture flowing out of them as smooth as honey or if someone
stutters and stammers a bit over their words or if someone has tears that fall
like rain as they pray and words are hard to come by, each one is important,
each one touches our hearts and each one is being heard by our Father in
Heaven.
Let me tell you why.
Wes still has no symptoms.
Period. Our nurse practitioner at
HSC is astounded by that and repeated the potential symptoms and Wes was able
to say “No, I don’t have any of those symptoms.” And then she asked if he was still working,
yes he is, in fact he’s still working two jobs!
He loves his work and the people he works with. Your prayers matter!
Is everything perfect?
No. On Friday we went for our
appointment assuming that it would be our typical, have blood work, see the doctor
for our Temozolomide prescription and we’d be off and running kind of
appointment. Not quite. They wanted to run one more
test on Wes and then suddenly there was a shift in the atmosphere. In checking Wes’ blood they realized that his
blood sugar was way out of whack, in fact it was 32 and normal is around 4 - 6. Having had a nephew who has been a diabetic
since he was 4 years old I knew right away this was not good. Well, apparently we have now been blessed
with steroid induced diabetes, something I had no idea could even happen.
Everyone
in the office switched into high gear and within ten minutes we were whisked
away upstairs to the Endocrine Clinic and within half an hour we were schooled
in how to check his blood sugar 4 times a day, keep track of his numbers and taught
how to give injections. The girls there
were kind enough to stay and work with us even though their clinic was
closing. They took their time explaining
and answering our questions but it was still a very overwhelming
experience. Our normal half hour
appointment was now going to the 3 hour mark.
But I was extremely grateful that they took the time to help us. Your prayers matter in every way!
As we were getting ready to leave the nurse
walked us to the nurse’s station and gave us our new doctor’s cell number and
she kept saying, “I can’t believe she’s giving you her cell number! She’s never done that before. I’ve worked with her for 7 years and I don’t
even have her number!” Before we left
she smiled and said, “I wonder what makes you so special that she gave you her
number?” In that moment I didn’t feel
really special, in fact I felt pretty deflated carrying that big plastic bag of
needles and meds. And as she stood there
talking to Wes her words, “What makes you so special?” kept running through my
mind. What does make us special?
Well, it's pretty simple I think. We have a God who loves us and cares for us
and he hears the prayers of his people.
Whatever the outcome, whether healing or not
God calls us to love and care for one another, as one of the wonderful senior's who continues to call
me periodically reminded me the other day, “We are called to bear one another’s burdens!” You all do that for us! Don’t ever underestimate the power of your
love and prayers! Whatever happens, those prayers will continue to carry us in ways you may not even understand. We are amazed and humbled by the outpouring of love from you our family, friends and community!
You stand in the gap for us. You are faithful. You are love. You are powerful in your
prayers.
And we thank you!
